Learn Electric Guitar Online – 3 Tips To Choose The Right Program
If you have researched how to learn electric guitar online, then you know there are a number of programs available. But how do you choose? With so many options, how can you be assured that you get the right one for you?
This article focuses on 3 things you should look for when you want to learn electric guitar online. These are based on my experience from what I learned when searching around. I tried a few of them before I settled on the one I eventually used. The good thing is that most, if not all, of the online guitar lessons have a money back guarantee and are very affordable.
- Geared toward your level. The first thing to make sure of when you want to learn electric guitar online is that the particular program is geared to ward your level. Are you a complete beginner? Do you have some experience? Are you basically Eddie Van Halen and just want to brush up your skills or learn a new genre?
Most online programs have training videos and a clear progression from beginner to intermediate to advanced. But some are geared solely to the beginner. If you are more advanced, you obviously wouldn’t want these lessons.

- Have jam tracks and a chord library. Make sure that when you learn electric guitar online you choose a program that has jam tracks and a chord library. The jam tracks are especially important because this is the most fun part when learning. Just learning theory and technique is obviously important, but it’s boring. If you can learn while having fun by playing along with your favorite songs, it makes it so much easier.
- Professional instruction – many of the online electric guitar lessons are taught by professional guitarists, and they typically specialize in one genre, whether it is heavy metal, rock, blues, hawaiian or any other style. This is all they do – teach guitar for a living.
It’s easy when you are searching for ways to learn electric guitar online to get sucked into the freebie lessons on Youtube. One problem I found with these is that you never know what you are going to get. I don’t know about you but I would rather learn from a professional guitarist than from some high school kid playing “Free Bird” in his bedroom!
Another important aspect of the professional instruction are live Webinars and active forums. With some of the better programs, you’ll find live Q&A sessions with the instructors as well as active forums where you can have your questions answered.
Ultimately, if you learn electric guitar online from one of the better known outfits, you can’t go wrong.
